Headline: MGA Links Clubhouse Takes Major Step... Roofing and Windows Installed at the New Home of The First Tee of Massachusetts

For Immediate Release: January 24, 2010

Norton, MA — With each passing day, the new clubhouse at MGA Links at Mamantapett is looking more and more like a true home for golf.

Over the past few months, the workers have been busy installing the roof and windows. With the exterior taking shape, the workers will now turn their attention to the interior insulation and the exterior siding and decking.

The goal is still to have the building up and running by the end of March and in time for the start of the 2010 golf season.

Despite the ongoing construction, the MGA Links professional staff is busy preparing for the upcoming golf season. To wit, beginning on March 1, the Pro Shop will begin accepting 2010 membership applications via mail and in person at the trailer being used as the Pro Shop during construction.

Since its opening in 2003, the MGA-operated par 3 facility in Norton has served as home to The First Tee of Massachusetts and is also open year-round for public play. As a result of its many and widespread offerings, the course received the 2008 Best of Norton Award in the Golf Courses category from the U.S. Local Business Association.

One of the driving forces behind the course earning national recognition was the fact that the dedicated staff manages a junior program of 600 — by far the most offered in this state and perhaps nationwide — and services hundreds of golfers of all ages and skill levels through public play, league opportunities and special clinics and events.

In addition, the facility has hosted regional The First Tee training sessions for the Northeast region, as well as the Barclay’s Tri-State match.

About the MGA Junior Golf Fund
In 2006, the Massachusetts Golf Association launched the MGA Junior Golf Fund in hopes of supporting all of its junior golf initiatives.

The MGA currently operates The First Tee of Massachusetts in hopes of introducing a younger generation to the game of golf.  The First Tee of Massachusetts is a statewide initiative that offers programming at MGA Links at Mamantapett located in Norton. The program is offered at sites in Lynnfield, Springfield, and Hyannis in addition to a variety of seasonal programs at other locations around the state.  The First Tee is a unique program that introduces children to the game of golf while at the same time using the Nine Core Values of The First Tee curriculum to teach life skills that are important on and off the golf course.
