Promoting, Preserving Amateur Golf
The MGA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting and preserving amateur golf in the Commonwealth. Since its founding in 1903, the organization has enjoyed a growth from 42 to 400 member clubs, two to 10 Championships and from 1,000 to 101,000 member golfers.

In 2002, the MGA reached a watershed moment when its number of member golfers surpassed the 100,000 threshold for the first time. The current 101,000+ total represents an approximate 60-percent membership increase over the last decade. Much of that increase is attributable to a 50-percent growth in member clubs over the past 15 years. Presently, more than two-thirds of the 400 member clubs are public-access facilities, while nearly one-half of member golfers are enrolled at public facilities.

As the seventh largest state golf association in the country, the MGA has been at the forefront of industry advances such as the creation of a computerized handicap system, online registration and real-time Championship scoring. After celebrating 100 years of serving golf in Massachusetts in 2003, the MGA is setting its sights on another productive 100 years of service to its member clubs and individual golfers.
