Junior Golf: MGA Links at Mamantapett

In April 2003, the MGA took a major step in expanding the game of golf and its inherent values to juniors, seniors and women across the state by opening MGA Links at Mamantapett.

Through the purchase of an 18-hole, par-3 facility in Norton, Massachusetts - formerly known as Wading River Golf Club - the MGA was able to open a permanent golf education center that serves as the headquarters for the organization's nationally-heralded ForeKids Golf Program and provides access for many youth-based community programs run by the local Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCAs, among others.

The 29-acre Norton course consists of a 2,248 yard, par-3 course that features a design of holes that will hold youthful interest yet also challenge the more discriminating golfer. The MGA has plans to renovate part of the golf course and also retrofit the existing clubhouse to accommodate the educational lessons that are an integral part of overall programming.

In conjunction with the purchase of the Wading River property, the MGA also formed a partnership with The First Tee, a national initiative of the World Golf Foundation to introduce the game of golf to at-risk, underprovided youth. The partnership plans were unveiled at the MGA's Centennial of Massachusetts Golf Gala, which was held in March 2003 at The Fairmont Copley Plaza in downtown Boston.

The new MGA facility is also open to public play at certain times during the week. The purchase of this new facility was made possible due to a successful MGA capital campaign that began in October 2001.
