An "amateur golfer" - as defined by the Rules of Golf - is one who plays the game as a non-remunerative and non-profit-making sport and who does not receive remuneration for teaching golf or for other activities because of golf skill or reputation, except as provided in the Rules.
Except for the Massachusetts Open and U.S. Open, all MGA and USGA Championship events are open to amateur golfers only. The MGA works in concert with the USGA in processing and examining the application of individuals seeking amateur status reinstatement.
Individuals looking to be reinstated as amateurs should contact the MGA directly at 800-356-2201 or visit the USGA's official Amateur Status page at www.usga.org/Rule-Books/Rules-of-Amateur-Status/Amateur-Status/_status for more information.
